Training basic cues for sit, lie down, stay, and come are routine for most animal trainers. However, this presentation will demonstrate a new approach to training these cues using affection as the reinforcer! Using Constructional Affection, we will present a near errorless process to establish these basic cues. During the presentation, we will explore the prerequisites needed to use affection effectively as a reinforcer, the role of the Interaction Guidelines and Affection Loop, and the steps required to add cues. When using affection as the reinforcer, these cues are able to maintain in natural conditions without further training or a fading procedure. This approach provides a practical, effective, and fun way to build cues that all members of the family can implement!
